    Dear Faculty Colleagues, 

    The importance of community has been highlighted for me now than ever before. In the face of a global pandemic unseen in any of our lifetimes, we must band together to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on individuals and the community at large. We are faced with both personal changes (no more handshakes! Social distance!) as well as institutional changes which necessitate a move to remote teaching. As a faculty member myself, I feel that hearing the teaching plans and reflections of our colleagues can bring us some comfort and even inspiration. As we work to teach in new ways and to continue to support our UC Davis students, I share here the reflections of our colleague Mark Verbitsky of the Department of Political Science.

  • Move to Duo

    You have probably heard that campus is moving to using  the multi-factor authentication system Duo. This makes it much harder for hackers to access your UC Davis accounts. Even if someone has stolen your passphrase, they will still need a “second factor”.

    The System Support Group (SSG) is here to help you move to Duo.  Here is a step by step walkthrough that should help you to move to Duo.

    Faculty and Staff are supposed to move to Duo by the middle of February. The SSG encourages everyone to move to Duo as soon as possible, because of the protections Duo provides.

Google Drive File Stream is having issues on Campus

Google Drive File Stream Service is having issues for some users on campus. 

As a work around the Google Drive Web Page is still working, this issue only affects Google Drive File Stream.

UPDATE: 1/22/20, 11:59 AM -- The problem with Google Drive should be resolved.

Due to needed critical security patching, an unscheduled update to the spam firewall will happen today at 12:30 PM.

There will be a short interruption of mail flow to any @cs.ucdavis.edu address. Due to the robust nature of email, this should cause noticeable issues.

Tuesday April 9th the Systems Support Group (SSG) will continue updating the CS Spam and Virus Firewall in the morning hours. 

During the update the Spam and Virus Firewall will be offline for a few minutes. No email should be lost, and should be transparent to CS as email is a quite robust system and all servers are expected to attempt delivery again after a short period of time.

These updates are required to address security concerns with the device.

The CSIF has new home directories

The Computer Science Instructional Facility has a new set of home directories in the CSIF and old home directories have been archived. 
The old home directories are still mounted on sp2.cs.ucdavis.edu as read-only.  Please, only use sp2 to retrieve or backup your files from the old home directory.

If you have created a file on the new home directory that is named the same and in the same location as the file on the old home directory and you rsync that directory to the same place, it will over write the file on the new home directory.
